The gates and courtyard of Noordeinde Palace in The Hague

Noordeinde Palace & Lange Voorhout

The King’s working palace, a statue of William of Orange and the city’s grandest avenue.

Noordeinde Palace is the working palace of King Willem-Alexander: the place where he receives ambassadors, holds audiences and conducts official business. It is an elegant, white-painted building behind gilded gates on the street of the same name, and although it is not open for regular tours, it is very much part of a walk through the old centre.

In front of it stands the equestrian statue of William of Orange, father of the Dutch nation. Behind it lie the Palace Gardens, a quiet green space open to the public, and the street of Noordeinde itself is lined with galleries, antique shops and boutiques.

A few minutes away is Lange Voorhout, the grand lime-tree avenue that is one of the most beautiful streets in the Netherlands, with the Hotel Des Indes, the Kloosterkerk and Escher in Het Paleis. In summer, markets and outdoor sculpture exhibitions are sometimes held under the trees.
